How not to loose the sky?

"Loose" versus "lose" is my biggest pet peeve. Same with their, they're and there. Your, you're. To, too, two....

I was shooting in AV mode I believe, When I first took the picture it exposed for the sky which blacked out my couple. I turned on spot metering and then the sky looked horrid, SO I went back to evaluative and turned my external flash on I think to +1 can't remember all the way and got a decent light up of the couple but also the whole picture went lighter including the clouds and sky. (The clouds were full and dark and everywhere.)

You meter for the sky and use the flash to light the people and all will be in balance. One speed light or maybe even just a reflector could have done the trick.

Its best to shoot in all manual too. Av will adjust things that you dont want sometimes. For consistent manipulation, use manual.

Honestly are we still talking about this its a mistake not a mistake in the sense of I didn't know which to use but typing fast and not looking over my text mistake.

Were you shooting in program/auto? Are you saying that you took the picture liked the skies exposure then added a fill light on your subject and found the sky to be over exposed? Obviously I'm confused. Adding a fill light shouldn't have changed anything with the sky unless you or your camera made another change.

Are you suggesting that adding fill light to the subject and exposing for the subject, wouldn't darken the sky? I hope no. That's outdoor lighting 101.

The the OP: the way your image turned out is brilliant. It is good in more ways than one and I feel that had the sky been any darker, it would have taken away from the "softness" of a wedding image. The photo is great.

Agreed on all accounts. I like the softer sky for this photo. More detail wouldn't really hurt, but the style would be dramatically different. If that is the style you're after, then it's absolutely worth learning how to achieve.

OP, you're a nice enough lady and I've really enjoyed helping you the past day with your photos. This is one of the most facetious, sarcastic forums I've ever participated in, but it's well worth it. Like Kathy suggested, just dish it back out! Everyone here is able to give it and take it

Exactly. I got the same treatment when I first joined this forum--I just like to see what people are made of--it's nothing personal. Having a backbone is a good thing. And, Bitter, I am not a bully.
