You need more light in the eye sockets. You want the light coming from behind you and into their faces, not from above you and them.

In the first photo the light is high and the peoples eyebrows are shading their eye sockets.

Lighting equipment isn't needed. A simple reflector would work, but a reflector generally means having someone, or some thing to hold the reflector at an angle that aims the reflected light where you need it.

That kit lens isn't the sharpest lens to use. Shooting at f8 may help keep things sharper, and maybe a little more contrast, the one photo looks a little flat.

Focus the eyes with a sharp lens. you need good lighting in the eye area to have a good contrast.

What they said, plus :

its worth noting that that your photo is significantly more loosely framed. The smaller the eyes are, the less detail they'll have.

Glasses get dirty quickly and easily - these look a little cloudy to me and that's not helping. Either take them off, give them a clean right before photo

Please do use a favor. Just report duplicate threads (including their respective locations would be helpful). Do note in the duplicate thread the duplicate has been reported, so it doesn't get reported multiple times by multiple members.
