How to take star trails with Canon EOS Utility?

Hello, I am new to the forum, so if I mess up... I am attempting to take star trails with the Canon EOS Utility. It has the feature I am looking for, but I see that it has the interval between shots. I do not need this feature if I am taking 30 second exposure shots. I have seen people say they use a 5 second interval when doing it, but it does not work correctly because it says the other shots fail because the shutter is still open. How do I do what I am attempting?
