No flash required.... just an extremely fast shutter speed.

Taken at 1/8000s shutter speed. No flash is going to help in this situation.

wow if those hummers where shot with no flash at all and have frozen wings... that is truly amazing.

how is that possible though?
with such a fast shutter speed you would think it would be well under exposed....

Not necessarily. Some cameras have stellar high-ISO performance and if there is sufficient sunlight available, I think a properly exposed subject at 1/8000 is entirely possible.

Freezing the wings on a hummingbird isn't the hard part, getting the little bastards to sit still long enough to take a picture, now that's the hard part. Nice Pics.

true.... i was stuck on thinking with an XSi. the iso starts gettin bad on those at 800
