I already have a Canon7d .....witch full frame camera do you recommend?

sorry to interrupt but i think the 7d is adequate for shooting everything, i don't see how a full frame can improve that. just saying... :no smile:

There are many benefits to using a full frame camera.

Nikon D700 is a nice full frame camera, with a real, professional 52-point, 3-D color matrix autofocusing and metering system, built in flash, built,in multi-flash commander, rugged pro-type body, color-aware light AND flash metering,etc,etc.

I am glad this topic was posted. I shoot with a 7D and love that camera. I mainly shoot racing and faster moving stuff. However I am finding myself doing more Event coverage and more still shots such as motorcycles and even some posed people. I need to get a 2nd body for event coverage and have been toying with getting another 7d or just pulling the trigger and getting a 5dii. From what I am reading here it looks like I will be getting the 5dii so i have both a full frame and a crop.

If you do get another one keep the 7d as a backup, events(weddings etc) require a backup plan in case you drop your cam or something happens.

What do you use? I have been used to Nikon for a while. However, for just portraits, the 5d mk ii has been calling my name. It's a huge difference in resolution. Of course, I know it's slower and has less focus points, etc but it still looks like a beast.

I HIGHLY suggest that you rent a 5d2 before you buy. The focus issues with racing may well turn you off big time.

Yet you're looking into FF cameras that start in the realm of around $3000? That makes total sense.

Stick with the 7D, its not worth having purchase new lenses since only one of your would work on a 5D or 1D. The 7D is a great all around DSLR you should enjoy it! I would recommend that you start purchasing just EF lenses from now on and no more EFS.

im guessing you don't know much about camera gear to begin with but for some reason you want a full frame camera. EF-S lenses are only for cameras with APS-C sensors (Rebels, 60D, 7D). EF lenses are for full frames (5D Mk2, 1D-series), and they work on APS-C cameras as well. So if you are still considering going full frame then you shouldn't buy any more EF-S lenses, unless you want to burn some cash.

EFS lenses can only be mounted to a crop sensor camera body, they will not attach to a fullframe body such as a 5D. This means that if you intend (now or in the future) to add a fullframe body to your setup you'll lose the use of those lenses for that body.

EF lenses are able to work on both fullframe and crop sensor bodies and also represent the majority of the canon lens line up (as opposed to the 9 or so EFS lenses they make).

Generally speaking the EFS lenses are smaller and lighter than similar EF counterparts, also in the shorter telephoto to wide angle zooms the EFS have some more typical walkaround combos such as 17-55 and 17-85mm type lenses which are good all rounders for crop sensor; this is as opposed to typicall all rounders on full frame which would be lenses like the 24-70mm.
