I have a crap camera, so where do I start?

I got the Canon 1100D as a gift.[.....] So, how do I start to make good use of it?

Charge it up, put in an SD card and get out there!

On another note, you seem to be a little ungrateful and I'm sure there are plenty of members who'd be willing to take the crap camera off your hands. I expect one or two might even be prepared to pay for the shipping....

I do apologize to you belial. The first time I read it, I must have misread or read it too quickly and it seemed like what you said was contradicting itself. Now that i've gone back and re-read it again it makes more sense. Sorry for my temporary foot-in-mouth syndrome, shame on me.

Erm, PARDON ME, op, but, the Canon EOS 1100D is NOT a crap camera, I have this camera myself and everyone I have spoken to, from amateurs to professionals have said that it's a good entry level camera.
As my first Digital SLR I absolutely love it, like all cameras, it has pros and cons, but, if your a good photographer, then, you can take great pictures with the simplest of cameras.

I'll pay him $75 for it right now. Itll make a good compliment as a second body to my 500d. I could run two prime lenses this way.

The T3 is not a crap camera. If it is, I'm using what a crap camera takes a crap on. These are with my Rebel XT (2005), which is 5 years older than yours... And I bought it used on ebay for $90US

The T3 is a great camera. You have to learn how to utilize it. Great photos are the product of a great photographer.

Seriously ?

There are people who give SLRs as gifts ?

And people who call a digital camera with full 10 dynamic steps and almost no loss in details at all at ISO 100 a "rubbish" camera ?

Personally I wouldnt be too happy either, for a simple reason: I would prefer to choose myself to what company I will depend upon in future, thank you very much. As you cant use Canon lenses with Nikon nor Nikon lenses with Canon, except with trickery.
