I have a problem with my compact flash card

I just returned from a trip and have been downloading all my pics to my computer. I have not found the very last ones and am not sure which card I used. I have it narrowed down to 2 different ones. The one says there are no images and the other says in order to use it I must format and this is the one I am more confident that I used.. it tells me this both with a card reader and also in my camera.
I shot all pics in raw but don't think this makes a difference as the other card I did the same with also.
I have never had this problem before.
I do not want to format my card just in case there is something on it.
Is it possible that maybe the contacts on the card need to be cleaned? This is the only thing I can think of since it happens both with the camera and the card reader.
I know whatever card I had in the camera did take the pics as I previewed them after I shot them.
Do you think I should just chalk it up to bad luck and forget about it? Or is there ANYTHING that can be done?

Try a freeware version of an image recovery software. If they can't be recovered, it's a matter of whether you want to spend money to get them. If so, buy some software. If they're critical, send the card to a recovery specialist.

Formatting the card won't delete your images... they're still there. Just don't use the card until you either recover the images, or decide they're not worth your time & effort.
