Crollo is being facetious. You will need a Pentagon budget to buy that lens.

What do you already have? Nothing more than the camera body & kit lens?

What do you want to do with it -- specifically what types of subjects interest you? (e.g. landscapes & nature? wildlife (big wildlife? small wildlife? really really small wildlife?) sports? architecture?

WHAT you want to shoot will strongly influence the type of gear you should have. We could list suggestions all day long... but it'd wouldn't be very useful without a much better indication of why you bought a camera and what sorts of things you enjoy shooting.

This because there is no "best" gear. The REASON you can swap lenses is that you can use lenses more specifically suited to the type of shots you want to take rather than rely on some general-purpose lens that's not particularly good at anything. So unless you want a recommendation that says "go buy one copy of every lens available for your camera" then you should provide hints as to what you like and the members here can suggest more specific and practical recommendations.

If you're completely new to DSLRs, then the recommendation at the top of my list would be a few good books. Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure" comes to mind.

The "thing" to do next would be a 50mm 1.8. It seems (for myself included) to be the "next step" lens after the photographer outgrows the kit lens. Perhaps not the smartest move though.

You could definitely use a bag, tripod, reflector, grey card. The last 3 (given that you take the time to learn how to use them), will improve your photographic skills more than any lens.

I also have a T2i and the first thing I bought was a bag. Protect your investment. The 2nd things I bought were filters. Then a flash. Then I got a nifty-fifty and more filters. Then I got a bigger bag. Then I bought a reflector (best bang for buck) then I bought a grip. Hope this helps
