...that I am going to just go for it and start the hunt for a D700. :drool:I won't buy until I find a deal good enough that I can't pass up, but I'm not going to let 4 years go buy before finally buying the camera I'm drooling over (like it was with the D200:confused:), and realize there is a new one out that haunts my wet photography dreams every night! So if anyone knows of deals going on or a nice reasonably priced D700, please do let me know!:

In the mean time, I shall be practicing and studying my butt off in order to be worthy of such a camera!

I bought mine for 2189 Canadian. To me that was a good price also I had rented it for a period of three days so I had a 375.00 credit towards the purchase. See if you can find something like that around you. I ended up paying 1900 and change which was great.

I bought my D700 from these guys, so I'd keep an eye opened for them. The other day they had a refurb unit for $2090, but it seems to be out of stock today. They are legit and were a couple of hundres dollars less than Adorama and B&H.

Thanks guys! I'll check out the site kundalini...

Is it safe and worth buying a refurb from China?...a little hesitant to shell out that much for an unseen product...(roughly...2K)...

Direct from China or through a US importer?

I would be leery - I don't like shelling out that king of cash if there's a risk of a problem with a return. Even Nikon has been known to ship the odd DOA lens or body. IMO, it's worth paying a little more to get from somewhere that you know will answer a telephone call, in English!

I would be terrified to buy one of these straight from China....... you truly never know what you're going to get, and no recourse if there is an issue.

You're in Minneapolis..... give a call over to West photo and national camera. They will put your name on a list, and let you know if/when they get one in used. There, you have reputable companies that will stand behind their product, right in your backyard.
