I have my Nikon 50mm f/1.8, now what?

I can't give a budget number. I can say that I am single with a great straight out of college job and I have no debts to pay. So I am willing to spend good money on a lense that will last. Like the 70-200 f/2.8 I could definitely put that on a list and when I save up enough money (taking in account monthly expenses) I will buy it.


I have realized now that I have been looking longer that The faster glass is more expensive. but I don't understand the DX, ED, IF code on the lense. I am guessing that IF is Internal FOCUS but what are the other abbreviations and what does that tell me about the quality of the lense?
