BLow C&C , i do what i want , to a degree that i like , i'm not a professional ....this is a hobby , and i dont need to sell and please the masses , do you C&C a painter or designer ....no you just dont like his/her work , end of story . Same with photo's i have found , so many need to be liked to feal like there doing it right , do what looks good to you and look at others to help inspire.

TPF has always been and continues to be a website focused around helping photographers gain new understanding and extend their horizons and abilities. Whilst we have a focus toward beginners its for every level. That is why all our galleries allow critique and subject discussion so that members can freely engage in this learning process.
IF you don't want to take part in that then you're perfectly welcome to stay. Just use the Just for Fun gallery
Just For Fun!
Where critique isn't an option. Though do respect the fact that many do come here to learn and many also come here to share and teach (and if you think traditional artists don't get critique then - you are very strongly mistaken ;))

What happens if I start reporting my own posts as rude and offensive?

Your reports get demoted to - amusement status (that means you'll either have to live with Pixi when he's only had 2 hours sleep after 36 hour shifts - or the Bunny (who is insane) - or Mish who will likely just want to whip you some more)

Sounds like I need to start reporting my own posts. woot woot

:D All the respect in the world given to those that want to learn and to those that want to teach, i was there but quickly learned what i'm preaching above , there's no hate given to TPF it's just my veiw with C&C ......one thing i would like to see is the stats on how many pictures get posted to the amount of replies that get posted for the pictures, i dare say it would be very one sided ..... this is a big downer to any new guy , you need to be one of the cool kids to have anyone say anything ....maybe that's just they way it rolls , I'll keep throwing up work to the masses . Love it or hate it i hope it inspires something in someone .

Well, this was an entertaining read.

Feel free to tell me to stop being a mook if I am ever being "one of those" about CC I receive .. seriously. But I'll be honest.. the likelihood of me actually using my flash this year is slim to none... lol

I'm always amazed at the radical polarization that occurs when discussing a subject like this - not just here but in other areas of life. I've found that most people are reasonable and can have a civil discussion even when they disagree. And this usually results in those same people finding out that they really don't disagree as much as they thought they did. Or, at the very least, they find a new appreciation for how the other person feels.

I'm sure there are people here who have resisted valid criticism that was given with respect and with a genuine desire to help the person improve. To those I would say, toughen up a bit. And pay attention - you will improve if you heed their advice. To those who have decided to stop replying to threads because of these people, why let the few whiners deprive the rest of us of your knowledge and years of experience? You are the reason most of us are here.

And to those of you who provide rude and demeaning comments, are you really so immature and lacking in people skills that you can't make a point without insulting someone? And are you really going to "take your toys and go home" because TPF has encouraged you to not be a jerk? It feels a little like an entitlement issue. Brings to mind the recent story where Reese Witherspoon was arrested for DUI and yelled at the officer, "Do you know who I am?"

I find it ironic that some of the same people who complain that posters protect their photos by claiming they are art are the same people who protect themselves from criticism by claiming "this is who I am" or "some posts deserve rude replies." Do you expect the noob poster to open themselves up, be vulnerable and take whatever is given in order to learn and change and yet not be open to change yourself?

Timothy with the voice of reason.

As a somewhat side note.. did Reese Witherspoon really say that? I think I officially like her less.

Just seems like we are getting to the point where I see lots of keyboard heroes who have all this "great" advice and strong opinions but never post any of their own work.

Not that it matter at the end of the day but if you ride my ass about composition and exposure and I see that you can't do the same in your photos I tend to give less of a **** about your opinion.

I'm a keyboard hero.

I got stars.. in my eyes.

The great thing about the "man, what a bunch of babies. sometimes you just gotta lay it out and be tough" crowd is how universally badly they accept negative critique.

If the "tough critique" attitude weren't so obviously a double standard (don't do it to ME, or to the designated HOT GIRLS, but YOU have to TAKE IT) I'd be a lot happier with it as a concept. The double standard is what reveals it as simple bullying, rather than tough, fair, but honest.

I hope you don't mean what I think you mean....
If ANY of the female members were coddled and not given honest critique for ANY reason that supremely sucks and I'm quite disappointed if that is in fact the case.

Never has a man given a woman a compliment they haven't deserved, certainly never on the internet!

Good comment by the way.

I don't know if I could through myself into that group or not, as I've always welcomed honest c&c. When I post something for critique it's because I'm not sure about it. It may have elements I like and elements I don't. If I care enough I've already got a reshoot in mind. But I'll post it up to compare notes with others. So getting brutally honest c&c on that is both welcome and helpful. Actually, come to think of it, I think Derrel commended me sometime last year about being thick skinned and being open to different points of view. Now when I give c&c, or more so when I used to give c&c, I never went out of my way to be rude to anyone with my initial critique. I wouldn't sugar coat anything, but I wouldn't say something like, "Jesus, this picture sucks you must be such an *******".

I guess some people can't have the mirror pointed back at themselves.
