I think I've nearly cracked it!!!???

Definitely like the first one. Nice colors and a moody looking sky. The second one just looks like a picture taken with the wrong white balance.

Thanks for taking a look! You're right I can now see the areas you're talking about! I think I can probably resolve those quite quickly on PS! What is it on an HDR image that results in halo's!?

And your photography is already improving. And, no, using Photomatix is not cheating. It actually is the software of choice for HDR from what I understand (I don't do any myself.)

Thanks Cloudwalker! I've found that HDR imaging is a good way to get crisper, better coloured shots out of my slightly limiting equipment! I'm going to keep working on basic techniques and composition etc. but I am looking at a Nikon D50/70 as an entry level DSLR in the near future!
