Okay. I have mentioned this purchase before. 31st August I bought a Tokina 12-24mm f/4 mkII.....or so I though. Now, TWO months later, I've noticed that I do not in fact own the mkII version of this lens. I've done some research, and the mkII really does say "II" on the lens. It also has a red line where the mkI has a golden line. Yes, perhaps I should have noticed this before  :blushing:

Anyway, take a look at this and please confirm it for me :)

And my last bit of evidence:

Always keep your receipt! Anyway, I was charged for the mkII version, which is more expensive, but give the mkI version. I've got the receipt, I've got the lens in original packing (except the plastic) and they have registered me and my lens in their database. I should be able to contact them and get the mkII version? This version handles flare better I've read, and is supposed to be better optically. I've been happy with my lens, but I'd like what I paid for :)

Should this be much trouble?
Anders

edit: The serial number on the receipt matches the one on my lens. That makes me think that they have scanned the box I got, but somehow programmed it wrongly in their system as the mkII version and not the mkI version....

Looks straight-forward to me. I don't think it's reasonable for the store to assume that you will even know that there is a Mk I or Mk II, or that they have differently marked boxes; ergo, it's nothing that you did "wrong" by not noticing. I would take it in soonest.

I would take it in for the exchange which you are owed, legally. You were sold a different item than you payed for. People who work in retail actually pay attention to "new" stock items; this incident should give you pause to consider the type of business you dealt with. I am not discounting the possibility that this was an "accident"---people are human, and make mistakes. But I do not "think" this was an accidental mistake. It's a 50-50 situation IMHO.

I bought it from a chain of famous photography stores called "JapanPhoto". They are serious in their marketing, and have a nice range of products. That's also where I bought my tripod. I've sent them an e-mail. I'll wait and see what they answer. Should it prove problematic to deal with them, I'll just have to take the train and pay them a visit and sort it out. It may be that they have programmed this lens into their system as the mkII version. If I did pay the price for the mkI, but the receipt says mkII, then I suppose I either could

1) pay the difference and hand in that lens and get my mkII version, or
2) say that I've thought I've had the mkII version due to their mistake, and anything else than getting what I've been believing to be having would be an act of poor service from their part, which would lead to their losing a faithful and respectful customer

:)

I think you paid for the MKII, wouldn't make sense that there system has it programmed in as a II with a I price on it.

Just so you know, when I was in my early 20's, I worked for a chain of photography stores...when "new lenses" came out, it took about 20 minutes for people in the biz to hear about the new stock...and at that time "old stock" became something to "get rid of". It needed to be "removed from inventory" by any one of several means possible. The people who worked on the sales floor, at the warehouse, and in order packing and shipping ALL knew their products and the packaging, intimately. Of course, that was back when Reagan was President...perhaps people have become dumber over the years, or fundamentally changed in some way.

The packaging today is all electronic, I guess. The times have changed, indeed. Back in the days you found people who actually knew what the heck they were doing, as opposed to today. I'm awaiting a reply from them. I'll post what they say here when that time comes.

Back to hydrophobic interactions for me now. (this is a great forum to take my 5 minute breaks! :) )

Seems you paid for a Mk II. Seems they agreed to supply you a MK II for the price. Seems you didn't get a Mk II. Seems they owe you 1 x MK II or a refund.

Maybe I'd be able to get a tokina 11-16/2.8 out of this :P It's the speed I'd like, I'd be able to double my exposure on the night sky and get more of those far away photons that has been travelling for a ridiculously long time onto my sensor :)
