This afternoon, four guys came over and made short shrift of the >1 foot of heavy snow in my driveway and front walk.
Great.
They shoveled
I drank hot chocolate.
Clean neat, big piles off to the side.
I smiled.
Money well spent.

Still snowing.
4+ inches of heavy snow now on the ground and more coming down.

More hot chocolate needed.

It passed through here yesterday afternoon and last night. Accumulations varied widely in East Tennessee, but before it was done, there was about 8-8.5 inches at my house. That may not be that much by more Northern standards, but it was our biggest snowfall in something close to two decades.
I did not shovel any of it, nor did I pay anyone else to. I sat inside, drinking coffee and working (the sole benefit of snow for me is that I do at least get to work from home--not because I can't get IN to work, but because it means my workday starts at 5:30 a.m. and ends at 11:30 p.m.) and let the snow sit there.
It got up over freezing today, so about half of it has already melted. I expect almost all of it will be gone by the end of the day tomorrow, just in time for another dusting tomorrow night.
And then the forecast calls for temps of nearly 70 F by next Wednesday.

I feel for those of you for whom a foot plus is standard fare...but there IS a reason I live in the South.

As long as there are people who will shovel and I can pay them, snow's OK with me.
All of our utilities in this town are buried between us and the various substations so unless there's some huge outage, we're set.
If we run out of food, my wife and I will draw lots to see who gets to be sandwiches.
but perhaps we should get a big dog, just in case.

Get a goat! They don't need meat to survive(just get a ton of books and newspaper). You can milk them and they fit in your living room!

I bought a new snowblower on Monday, so therefore for the first time this winter we have not had a snowfall for 4 days and we aren't expecting more snow until possibly next Wednesday.

This was from 2011, went close to a week without electricity. But they declared a state of emergency so I was able to drive my ATV on the roads to get gas for the generator. I had to buy a new snowblower as the old one couldn't get the thick stuff up and over any more

I really miss snow, but that's probably because when I was in the states, I always lived in apartments. No snow shoveling for me ever!

On the other hand, having to commute on public transport in this endless rain (10°C) is depressing.

Also, while you guys can just sit in your cozy house enjoying a day off, we don't have heating here. So it's 10°C 24/7.

I am sure I'm one of the only people who is not sick of this yet. I think it's beautiful outside right now (just a lot darker than it is in the photo.)

And who am I to complain? Normally on a Thursday, I leave my house at 7:30 a.m. and don't get home until 9 p.m. Instead, I got to nap with my cats this afternoon.
