If FF really that much better?

Just to add that the evf in the newer olly em1 gives a huge view of the shot you are taking, however evf vs ovf is another thread

The camera I was originally going to buy was the d3100 ... then the d5100 (flippy screeen) .. but it didn't seem to meet my requirements (once I sat down and figured some out) so I jumped to the d7000. I was massively confused the entire time .. so I feel your pain.

My jump to the d600 was less trivial as it was more of "what could I afford" .. which was only two .. the d600 refurb or a used d700 (same price). After that requirements came into play and the d600 was the only choice. I still hated clicked the "Pay" button. But after I got comfortable with it I'm happy with my decision.

I don't have as bad of an eye issue as you. But if I had to MF with my left eye ... all shots would be .. let's just say badly out of focus. A few years ago they were able to get me contacts for my left eye ... it was a we "could" make those but it is a very odd (bad) prescription. Yup .. big and thick contacts. And glasses are the same. I just don't bother and haven't bothered since grade school. So I basically use one eye .. a pain when I get something in my eye while I'm on my bicycle.

What kind of FF v crop tests are you asking for?
Derrel put it more into play with all the bells and whistles you get with the upper bodies.

I guess more of a "can you tell the difference?" Set Is what I was referring to. But I suppose its irrelevant since I am now more confidant that FF sounds like a better long term decision, I just need to make sure my hands can grip the 5dmkiii. Honestly, my list of "needs" isn't that long. And while bells and whistles are nice- they certainly aren't needs. I feel like a camera I can actually GRIP without almost dropping it every time should also be considered a "need". I mean- if I was sweating holding that d7100 and trying to use BBF, I couldn't do it it would just pop out of my hand, which means, that while it's stripped down and pricy, and everyone hates it- perhaps the NikonDF is worth holding, side by side with the 5dmkiii.

Astro- it's not exactly size that a problem, but grip shape and button placement I suppose. I fell in love with the concept of back button focus with the d7100, but I felt like I was always dropping the camera. So if the buttons on the mkiii "fit" my hand, then specs wise it seems like the way to go. But if not- I don't want to be running the risk of dropping a $4k camera every time I use it.

When i bought the 1Dmk1 new it was over £4000 for only 4MP, dog was shot at F3.2

It's possible the universe might be telling me something.....

I set my purse on the table as I was getting ready to go last night and the toddler pulled it to the floor.... My lens hood split Down the side, and when trying to snap a few of some deer on the property, the camera screen turned black. I had to reinsert the battery to get it to turn on, then the AF wouldn't work and I had to reset again.

Looks light I might not have the time I thought I did..... I'm afraid to turn it on and test it this morning. :'-(
