Does anybody here remember Curtis Mathis--the LAST USA-made television set??? How long ago did they close up shop? Remember when cameras were made in the USA? Man, it has been a long, long time! KODAK filed for bankruptcy less than a week ago. The entire consumer electronic industry relies on workers at the Foxconn facilities to build the products that people all over the world want to own. Simple fact. Add another $167 to the price of an iPhone, and it could be built in the USA, according to that article....OR, pay $199 for it, built in China.

Yep, And it's our own fault. Fact: If you own a production company and you have a factory in US you get hit with the highest tax bracket in the WORLD. If you move that factory to China you get cheaper labor and a TAX BREAK!... Now, come on! Don't you think that's not in our best interest?

Even if that is true, I really don't think that taxes alone would solve the problem.

If you want to compete with Chinese labor, Americans are going to have to give up their lavish, excessive lifestyle.

Yes, thats true. I agreed.

But there's millions of american that are looking for job. I know many of them would not mind working in a factory, specially many of them are really struggling day to day. May be higher middle-class would mind giving up some excessive lifestyle but we are talking about the millions of unemployed lower middle-class and poor-class people that are looking for jobs just to be able to get basic necessities. Plus just start to bring factories home, those that need the job will take them, the one that don't want to give up their lavish lifestyle would have to attend to the consequences of their own acts.

Foxconn may have 800,000 employees, so what there more that double the people here in US looking for a job.

People may have their own opinions, preferences or are from different sides, but one thing is for sure, We need to work together on this and agreed on solutions fast. There no time to waste.

As off-track as this thread may go, fact is KmH's 1st post stands. Apple is an incredibly successful company!

Of course, when it comes down to it Apple its an amazing company. Love it or hate it there's no denying that Apple is very successful company and makes great products. There's NO amount of marketing that would make a company sell this much if their product sucks. Plain simple as that. (many haters out there, lol).

I think that most unemployed americans wouldn't mind working at american factories paying 12.50/hr or more.

But if they had to move their family of four into a one bedroom apartment and eat rice and chicken pretty much every day they'd be less willing.

I'm not saying that this is the extent of sacrifice Americans must endure to stay competitive, but our expectations of a 'modest' 3000 sq foot house with dedicated room for watching television and two car garage (with an extra car in the driveway) is probably doing more harm than anything else.

We're a nation of spoiled rich kids, when you look at things from a global scale.

I don't think anyone is willingly extremely poor without a spiritual angle. I think the largest factor to these "lazy people" is a lack of mental health, drug rehabilitation, transportation, education and childcare opportunities available in low income communities.

That and despite what people think, McDonalds isn't 'always hiring'. Especially not in communities where that is the only job available.

They make good reliable products, and if you don't lile them or think they are over priced, no one if forcing anyone to buy them.

That's basically it. I've been working in IT for the last 16 years and when a friend comes asking what computer they should buy, my first answer is always Apple. It's not because I drank the kool-aid but because their machines work reliably and have significantly less issues than DELLs, HPs or any other PC brand. I don't have any actual numbers to back up my claim but I don't hear from people who bought Apple systems besides "how-to" type issues and other unrelated stuff. PC users are constantly up my you know what.
