That's my story as well. Except that I didn't have insurance on my vehicle, thus it wasn't in the shop. It sat out in the driveway half tore apart while I pieced it back together with my non-welding skills. I worked on it for nearly 9 months (it just sat a few months through the winter weather) and 2 days after getting it back on the road, another deer jumped off the bank and into the front corner.

First deer was killed instantly. The second one was injured but ran off. Nothing I could do about it.

That's cause you live in the Ozarks. Everyone that isn't in a town (Springfield) has hit a deer, and everyone has had a cracked windshield at one point. Its in the bylaws or something.

I know how you feel; I've had to stop and put rabbits and others out of their misery. I hunt, and have no problem shooting something for a reason, whether for food or to protect pets and livestock, but accidentally running over anything just ruins my whole day.

anyways I find nothing wrong in what you did, racoons are living a hard life nowadays, it might be heaven's will they are put to rest at a young age
