What's new

I'm with Mike and PNA

Chase....I believe there is no further constructive debate regarding the issues at hand. It's your decision to modify the threads without the overhanging threat of a dictating mod chastising my comments.

Mysteryscribe stated my exact feelings at the outset, to ignore the new threads and not participate, but that defeats the real propose of be in the forum to begin with. And as an independent thinker, I can not abide by what appears to be unwarranted controls. It seem to me that I'm not the only one concerned with this issue.

I can wait and see what your decision will be.

Paul I started a thread called suggestions here just to see what people like us would like to see. Please add to it so that we can at least have our say on what we think it should look like. Then at least we will have had a voice even if nothing changes.

bug off, he's working on my critique right now . . . :) (or at least he is supposed to be)

i was on my travel home from work and, yes, i am working on a critique.

i owe no one an apology for living my life and not responding to this thread earlier.

further, i owe no one an apology for any of my actions. if any of the 'committee of complainers' had taken the time to read the guidelines, this thread would not exist.

this thread began and continues because of egotism. check your mirror, folks; it isn't mine.

You're way off base, pal! I want nothing more then to enjoy sharing with others in the form of photographs. Seems your authority has risen to heights yet unknown.

(Way to fan the embers, Motcon. Your people skills and diplomacy leave a lot to be desired).

The original critique forum committee was made up of Digital Matt, Torus34, Motcon, The_Traveler, xfloggingkylex, and Max Bloom.

An interesting mix of personalities with a wide range of skill sets, no? ;) And they were collectively fantastic! They met regularly over several weeks' time and voted on every smidgen of every aspect of every guideline and reference. Majority ruled.

The quote above is partly true and partly totally incorrect.
Of the 6 members of the committee only 4 were really involved at all. Digital Matt, Motcon, Max Bloom and myself.

I wrote the draft guidelines for the submissions to the forums. They differed only slightly from current practice in that 1) only one picture should be submitted unless the pictures were specifically related be content, in which case three would be allowed, 2) the pictures would be final when submitted to the Critical Analysis Forum and 3) the pictures should be close to the size limit.

When it came to guidelines for mod behavior I suggested strongly that we try to manage the reviewers' input by PM and that we should get into this gradually to 'train' the reviewers. Motcon, backed by Corry, wanted this rather draconian approach and the use of the 'stamps'.

Since Motcon had control of the poll process, no votes were taken for a week. When Motcon finally put up a poll, the process had the big red stamp and rather impersonal wording. Altho Digital Matt and Max Bloom had expressed a preference for a simpler, gentler process, they voted yes to make some progress. I voted no.

I am more than happy to take blame for the guidelines and for anything else I might have done but I am absolutely not part of this mod strategy. That is a Motcon issue.

Thank you....finally some clarification regarding the input to the issues.

I do believe your submissions are reasonable, although I question the point of "final'. None of my shot will ever be final, does that now rule them out for review under the guidelines and exclude me from participation in the thread?

BTW, I would be perfectly happy if the Committee threads were opened to the group to read.

Within hours, if not minutes, after the vote, I was locked out of the Committee sub-forum and neither I nor, I imagine, Max Bloom are part of the discussion of the follow-up actions.

Not at all. What I had in mind was getting images that people were 'finished' with and would happily leave alone as an example of their work. I know that nothing is ever really finished.

IMO, the Critique Forum is working as far as the kind of submissions and I am comfortable that the submission guidelines I wrote are pretty reasonable.

I am terribly disappointed in the way the committee process was managed.
I had written another long paragraph to follow on this previous sentence which I deleted because it was a personal rant, but I can say that I expected better and less self-adoring behavior.

OK... so where do we go from here? Charlie indicated that some discussions on our part start and perhaps the committee, with Chase's approval, will reconsider to modifying the guidelines.

I think my position has been clearly stated between the two threads already posted, but I'm ready to continue the input as necessary.

My middle name is "flexible".

ok i've slept on it, and am done venting and looking like a butt. (thank you terri)

motcon is involved in the process and is really following the rules, some people may not like how . . . however, i had one run in and KNOW i can make it work with the current guidelines. there are just some things that i thing need changed.

one of them that i see as a good way to keep people calm for now is to tone down the policing until people GET IT. people get mad when they are censored, the first time it happened was that time i created my vent and arguement thread, cindys first time resulted in this.
the times after the first time didn't upset me at all, and i believe that if we could get off with a warning and explanation during the transition period it would save us 20 more of these threads . . . and from us hurting each others feelings.
