Don't know if this is the right forum but I just started using a Mac for the first time and I am in shock. Not knowing what was coming I purchased Photoshop Elements which I am quite accustomed to and low and behold you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get your images to it. I also bought Neat Image, another program I am accustomed to using and still don't know how to open Mac's "photos" in it. There are other details about "photos" like not being able to see file numbers with out fiddling. Boy am I ever suffering from buyers' remorse!

I don't use Photos at all. I import from light room. I find Photos to be all but useless.

Don't worry, just keep working with it. I didn't start using a Mac until a few years ago and it took a bit to get used to some of the differences.

Use Adobe Organizer to import images into Elements. For Neat image. Importing and Exporting an Image in Neat - The Neat Company

What your experiencing is a real file system / structure that is secure and efficient . I loathe MS file structure. Unix / Linux are far superior.

Don't use Apple Photos.

I've been an iMac/Macbook Pro user for 7-8 years. While it has differences, you'll find that you've made the right decision.

They still sell Photoshop Elements?

But I agree. Some things like Photos and the latest versions of iTunes are really cumbersome. MacOS is a fine operating system, but some of the other stuff is kind of falling behind.

Photoshop Elements is ok but a simple limited program. Affinity Photo is $50.00 and is a photoshop rival. Far more useful than Elements and its rendering engines are noticeably faster that Photoshops.

Well can you just export all your photos somewhere else where you have access to them for processing and uploading to sites like Flicker? It seems the only images that can be accessed are those that have been saved in Photoshop and sent to "cache". In order to get images out of "photos" I had to download an app/extension called Open In. And jeeze louise what a process. Double click the image in "photos" clic edit, click extensions, click Open In then select Photoshop Editor. I may have missed a click or two.

No, open photos, select the photos you want to export, hit the export button and choose where you want them exported.

Hmm, PSE must be much different than LR.
I have both Windows and OS-X and using Lightroom in both ... don't see much of a difference in usage.

Easy from within Elements. You need to import them into Organiser (the photos do not move).

File>Get Photos>in Bulk.
Click on Pictures in left hand pane. Wait while Elements finds them then click on Import.

Now you access them from Elements.

Can you do that with photos imported into Apple Photo? If memory serves me correctly Photo creates it's own proprietary file of the photo. Could be wrong though as I do not use Photo.
