Ye!s you can. I bought an iMac last month and had the same problems as Donde. I initially moved my photos over from my aging Linux machine into Photos (slightly more than 19,000 of them!) and have spent today doing what I described above.

I edited a couple of them to make sure the whole process worked well.

It could be that Elements recognises Apple's format.

Well can you just export all your photos somewhere else where you have access to them for processing and uploading to sites like Flicker? It seems the only images that can be accessed are those that have been saved in Photoshop and sent to "cache". In order to get images out of "photos" I had to download an app/extension called Open In. And jeeze louise what a process. Double click the image in "photos" clic edit, click extensions, click Open In then select Photoshop Editor. I may have missed a click or two.

Easy from within Elements. You need to import them into Organiser (the photos do not move).

File>Get Photos>in Bulk.
Click on Pictures in left hand pane. Wait while Elements finds them then click on Import.

Now you access them from Elements.

Can you do that with photos imported into Apple Photo? If memory serves me correctly Photo creates it's own proprietary file of the photo. Could be wrong though as I do not use Photo.

Maybe they do now, but in the past the whole library was stored in the Photos directory in a similar heirachy as iTunes. It takes time to find them, but were are there. IDK if maybe they were invisible?

This was apples response to a similar question regarding uploading a picture that imported to photos.

You can't access the Photo Library directly. If you need to upload a Photo from Photos, you'll need export it first out of Photos. File->Export

That is why I asked the question. Photos is different that the old iPhoto. Like I said, I don't use photos for anything what so ever. It's fine for those who just want to see pictures and nothing else.

You will have to download the image to a drive.

On the bright side, am watching the science channel's How To Build Everything. Just learned that the Mars Rover uses an apple computer. Downside the mother board costs $200,000.00 each since they have to be protected from radiation and solar partials. I'm thinking the Genius Bar at the Apple Store isn't going to fix that one even if you happen to bring it in.
