In the market for my 1st camera

I'm looking to buy my first dslr, I have about 1,500 to spend (I know this isn't much) I am a beginner. But I am I looking for something durable and expandable. Any recommendations would be extremely helpful.

However, I am interested in Canon EOS 7D[h=1][/h]

You might consider spending $500 of your investment on a third party, fast, normal-ish zoom. Like a 17-50 (55). This will give you decent wide angle for landscape and decent length for portraits. The $500 will give you a lower aperture like f/2.8 for low light performance and depth of field control for your portraits.

You don;t need to spend money on 7D for this.

Remember, body is only the first step, rest all is in the lenses.

I would advise to go for 60D if you want Canon else Nikon D7000 even shames 7D in many aspects.

After, you have got the body purchase a fast zoom lens like the 17-50 f/2.8

A new Nikon AF-S 17-55 f/2.8 wll cost about $1500 new, about $1000 for a good used example.

New Nikon gear is getting hard to find because of all the natural disasters that have hampered their production. as the new stuff becomes less available, the cost of the available used stuff will go up to some extent, because the demand will exceed the supply.

Canon is affected too, but to a lesser extent, because canon didn't lose a camera/lens production facility in the Thailand floods like Nikon did.
