let me know what you think. I am going to try and clone out that piece of grass when I get the time so ignore that for right now. Looking for C&C on the composition, exposure, DOF, etc...

Thanks!

First one in bright sunshine is good; i would have prfered a shallow DOF to get blur out the hard rock , more

The snake is charming, except for that twine it is entangled with

Regards :D

That black rat snake is absolutely beautiful! Not only is he gorgeous and healthy But I love how you caught him at the perfect time when his eyes are blue but his skin hasn't dulled yet. I am so jealous! Oh to live in florida!

Thank you but it is an Indigo snake (Drymarchon couperi) which is an endangered species making this encounter so much more special.

Nice set!

First pic the whites are a tad hot imo...
the snakes are spot on, DOF works well in all of them. I detect a little blue colorcast on the snake, I would warm him up a bit to rid the blue tint from the sky.

Nice work....TFS

I tried that but to make any noticeable difference on the snake, I had to mess up the background colors. I could go into photoshop and really mess with it and make it just right but I am not too worried about it, I think that the colors are fairly accurate as is and even if the sky casts a bit of blue on him I am not worried about it.

Thank you for the tips though and I will keep that in mind next time I am taking a shot like this. Maybe I could have someone hold something up to shade the snake so there is less of the reflection.

Mea Culpa. I am a northerner, and it looks exactly like our black rat snake.

no problem mate. most people just call everything a water moccasin around here no matter what it looks like. At least you gave it a good educated guess. The difference is in the chin (the red coloring), the size of the scales, and the more angular shape of the body (hard to see in this pic).

Does that snake have rainbow color if you put it under the sun? I had a snake like that back home in Indonesia along with 2 Burmese pythons.

#1 is just too bright. You need to lower the exposure until you see detail on the bird. That will probably make the background totally dark, which is fine.

Those snake photos are killer! I love the second one.

Okay, I may play with the bird picture later. Thanks for the tip. And yes, the snake did have prism like scales. Very cool creature.
