Inexpensive Monitor

I can't afford an expensive monitor right now, but the one I have just isn't cutting it.

Does anyone know of a monitor make or series that is inexpensive, but still good - if not great - to edit on?

I use Lightroom and shoot in raw, and Windows 7.

Thanks for any advice. I know inexpensive can't equal true color/contrast etc. but I have to start somewhere

You want a monitor that uses IPS or PVA technology. If you're going to buy on the lower end then I'd suggest getting one of those from one of the two companies that actually manufacture the panels. Buy an IPS panel from LG or a PVA panel from Samsung. I just finished calibrating and profiling one of the newer Samsung Syncmaster panels and I was pretty impressed overall. The color gamut isn't really there, but realistically there aren't a lot of photos that really contain colors out on the extreme edges. The white point, gamma and evenness of the backlighting was impressive for a $200.00 monitor.

This is an inexpensive IPS display you can edit on - DELL UltraSharp 2209WA 22 Inch Black Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

Any of them still need to be re-calibrated routinely.
