Injuries during a Photoshoot

Sorry to hear about your injury. My wife had shoulder surgery not long ago. She was in a lot of pain afterwards until she took the steroid shot. I recommend it. After that she was able to complete physical therapy.
As for me, arthritis in the hip always keeps me alert on where I step.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Also, just to provide closure on my earlier post--partial tear of the ACL, bone bruise. After meeting with multiple orthopedics specialists, I'm opting for no surgery. Just prescription strength anti-inflammatories, an occasional knee brace, lots of PT, and avoiding high-impact sports.

Hi Folks,

An article could be written about injuries and safety issues on outdoor photoshoots. On November 13, 2022. My son and I went on a photoshoot in the mountains of east Kentucky. During the photoshoot I wanted to step down a small slope to get a better position for a particular mountain photograph. I took a step down the slope and there was no stepping down the slope. The grass was as slick as ice and my feet went out from under me and I landed flat on my back and slid down a couple of feet. It really knocked the wind out of me. Was carrying a Nikon D750 and a 24-120 lens. I think it was laying on my chest after the fall. But after I caught my breath I stood up and discovered that I could not move my left arm. My jacket, pants, and camera with the lens were covered with mud.

Got an x-ray the next morning. There were no broken bones. But the MRI revealed a torn rotator cuff on the left shoulder. On January 12 I have an appointment with a surgeon to talk about surgery. I am in a lot of pain.

Please be careful during photoshoots. Learn how to do a safety and risk assessment before going on a trip. Consider booking experiences through Virginexperiencedays to ensure you're choosing activities that prioritize safety. Be aware that not all areas have cell phone coverage. Make plans for an injury or an accident before it happens.

Thank you,

Lonnie
I'm sorry to hear about your accident. It’s a great reminder of how important safety is in outdoor photoshoots, especially in rugged areas. Slippery terrain, carrying heavy gear, and lack of phone coverage are all risks to consider. Performing a safety and risk assessment before heading out is essential. Make sure to take proper precautions, like wearing appropriate footwear, being aware of the environment, and having a plan in case of injury.

Good wishes while healing JoeW. A good reminder as I approach 79 which with any luck will be 80 in a year. :encouragement: I'm not as agile at walking on rocks, in woods, or on slopes, as I used to be.
