Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Thought id whip out the camera and play around with it a little while waiting for dinner to cook...
First time really using the 50mm (1.8) (have had focus issues with it ..i dont get it. Cant seem to nail the focus with that lens....)

Shot in RAW, manual, new flash...unfamiliar lens, and new editing program (LR3)... Digging my own grave here! :lmao: Screw it!

Im trying to improve here... so as far as *anything* you can think of; editing, focus, etc. Would be great to get some input on where I can improve here. I think i shot these on the largest aperture , should i have went up a stop or 2 ?? Thanks!

Chipotle marinated pork Chops...
To me the focus is WAY off... i tried the un-sharpen mask---but eh. :meh:

Decorative Grapes in my kitchen, used the reversal ring on my 50mm and gave it a try. I noticed my focus is getting a *little* better with it, but not pleased with the final results.

The focus looks fine, at least where the focus actually is. Where were you trying to focus? If you're not used to the lens I would recommend closing it to at least 2.8 and getting used to the shallow DOF.

I'd suggest closing it to F8 and getting all your subject in focus, DOF is far too shallow at these wide apertures unless you increase camera to subject distance for near stuff like this CLOSE DOWN THE LENS. H

in the center..lol viewfinder it looked great, but i knew it would deceive me. im still learning my manual lens.

So shooting it wide open is screwing my focus up???

Yep, your depth of field wide open and so close is really really really shallow, so when you have something like the food onthe grill shot from that angle is may only be about 10mm deep.

That lens can also be a little soft wide open (I am assuming its the Canon 50mm 1.8?).

It seems the 50 mm gets everyone screwed up with the wide open 1.8. My first attempts were lower than expected. Ive practiced some with a smaller aperature around 5-7 and found it to be crisper. As I understand it and I could be wrong but the closer the subject is to you the smaller dof is. Next time take several photos of the same subject at the same distance but at different f stops to see the difference. It might help.
Chipotle marinated pork Chops... :drool:yum!!!

From these two snaps I don't think there any focus issues. The problem is with f/1.8 the focus is very localized and everything else becomes out of focus. 2.8 or may be 3.5 is a reasonable option I think to shoot these kind of snaps. You should use 1.8 in very specific purpose

Ah, ok. I guess i assumed since it went to 1.8 That id get some decent shots with some great DOF... guess i lost my focus at the same time. and. Noooo, haha. Read my SIG. NIKON  :lmao:

Judging by his signature I'll assume it's a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D

Yeah, as were mine. Since ive owned it I have got 1 out of 10 shots to focus... most being the subject was further away. I quit using it for a while because i thought the lens was sh*t... Glad i decided to give it another try though before junking it
