Instant photography: my first fad

Digital "instant" cameras are becoming popular with young people in Japan. They're basically a combination of a cheap digital camera and a cheap printer.

Polariod is coming out with a digital version as well. they have a very cool looking wooden camera.

I find that in this Digital age, I do not have a print of anything. All the prints that I have came from my film cameras.

I was at the seminar a few days ago and the speaker, who was trying to sell his company's print service, said "Don't let your kids grow up to be JPEGs."

Every time I order prints for a client from MPIX, I always print 1 or 2 of my favorites for myself.

yeah I think instant photos are the next new fad; they were all over korea and japan when I visited this fall--I expect them to hit big in the US this summer.

You know, that was the first thing I bought when I was looking for a camera for my girlfriend, before I got into it. The new instant digital camera was really disappointing for me. I felt like it was such an alien imitation of what I remembered about the original cameras. Hopefully there will always be a source for the old film cameras, or at least new versions of them that operate a little more true to the original style.

Really? So what stops people from using film cameras, do you suppose? I guess since I'm a complete amateur, I don't care so much about about micro managing every aspect of my pictures. It's that perspective that makes me especially fond of these experimental instant films. Its like hickory furniture, you don't buy it because it all looks the same.

I have two film cameras and a digital. I learned on film and miss working with it. Reason I shoot full digital now is economically. It costs me a lot to buy the film and get it developed, considering I shoot 3 rolls at a time. Guess what stops me most is I don't have darkroom equipment either. Miss the darkroom in college :( *runs to craigslist*

Haha great point! Each pack of film I buy ( 8 shots for 20 bucks btw). Is like precious bars of gold pressed latinum to me. I heard recently that there is some sort of digital device you can load into the cameras to record exposures without using film, but I have yet to verify these outlandish claims.
