Yeah it's an impromptu shot of my wife's eye. I think you're referring to her make up

Nothing specific to the eye. Just global adjustments.

The lens used was a 100 2.8 macro @ f/4, probably it's sharpest aperture.

Interesting. I went back and forth on that. I like how it is just enough to see she is wearing a hood. My intent leaving the hood was to give it a bit of mystery. Does it work?

Well, it could be both ways. To me the edge of the hood so far out of the DoF is not an organic part of the subject, it does nothing for the subject just being a visual and mental distraction (what is it ? in the first moment). Hairs going slowly out of DoF would be IMO better closure for that side of the frame, more natural. But that all just my feelings.
