Iridology/Sclerology camera

I would like to get a camera to do iridology/sclerology pictures of the eye. I & S is a method of diagnosing health or illness in the body by examining various things in the eye.



I assume I would get a ring light or ring flash. I want to be able to see what the eye will look like when I take the photo and with an LED I am guessing that it will not be a big drain to just leave the light on. That way the strong flash won't make them go blind.

I am a complete noob so my questions will reflect that.

My first inclination would be to get something like a Nikon 3100 and then a 105 lens but another choice would be a lens that could do regular photos also. However really I have no idea what to buy.

Also thoughts on software.

The 105 Micro-NIKKOR is a good lens. You might consider the R1 Wireless Close-Up Speedlight System for close flash. The flash doesn't always have to be set to full power, and likely won't be anyway.

When you purchase a camera, it is often packaged with the 18-55mm zoom, which is pretty good for an inexpensive lens. So you will have that to start with, and then your micro lens for the eye project.

The editing software will depend on how involved you want to become. Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard, and it is packaged with Lightroom for $10 per month.
