Is anyone a member of their local photography club?

I am the secretary for Purdue's Photography Club.

Just go, ask a ton of a questions, and have fun! See if they don't have a schedule for their planned events, you'll surely find a few you'd be interested in.

Cleveland Photographic Society is fantastic. It's like 100 years old, they have weekly meeting, frequent not open to the public photo trips, are active in the community, do tons of community service event shoots, frequent formal competitions with area professional judges (rotating), just for fun competitions, lectures...over 350 members, they have their own meeting hall, and only costs like $65 a year, plus fees for some field trips, but because of the membership numbers they are rather reasonable.

Our fees are $25 for the year, that includes a dark room and a studio with master and slave flashes, backdrops, the works. We do tons of mini field trips, and two big trips per year. We don't have our 'own' meeting hall, but we do have a classroom allotted for us once a week. We do photo competitions with area judges (2 a year) and lots of lectures from the photoshop whizzes, local professional photographers, and the professional photographer who mentors us. It's a lot of fun! =) That club sounds fantastic.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. I'm heading out shortly and will report back tomorrow.

Cheers!
