My apologies for posting this in this section but I believe due to the difficulty of shooting wildlife that this is the place to do so.

A certain batch of 7D Mark IIs had a focusing issue and mine appears to be one of them.

So, I had it calibrated 2x first was with the 1.0.0 firmware and the 2nd time was because I applied the 1.0.4 firmware.

Kindly check my RAWs and give your verdict.

I don't think it's your camera. Perhaps your lens maybe. It's sharp enough for non pixel peepers.

Post them here.
Not sure why lately there seems to be a lot of 'click here to see' threads. It's a photo forum. Post photos.
Actually Dolina is looking for a knowledgeable evaluation of his raw files which can not be posted on line, as they are raw files. People come to photo forums for help and guidance on certain issues, not just C&C.

Anyways, Your lens and camera combo is sharp enough, but it is slightly front focused in the images, that is why the right shoulder of the bird is sharp, but the head is so noisy and not retaining the same feather detail, even thought the "focus point" is on the head. Also you are very close to the bird so your DOF is very narrow with the lens wide open at 800mm, so having the perfect fine tune is a must at this distance..

Have you tried Reikan FoCal? I purchased it a few weeks ago and it has made fine tuning my lenses so much easier. Even with my 500 F4 and 1.4x extender it has given me repeatable results and has greatly improved focus. The 7D Mark II can be a little tricky to tame, but for static birds it is pretty good. I see front focus in every image, so I suspect it is a fine tune matter. I had issues at first with a bad wasabi brand battery that was throwing everything off, just wanted to throw that out there in case you have any generic batteries..

Hope that helps..

Raw images are hard to judge, because they invariably need some sharpening straight out of the camera, but I am assuming you have done nothing to these. The few that I looked at, look okay to me, although, as I said, they may need a bit of sharpening. coastalconn's comment about DOF is quite valid. What f-stop were you using and how far away were you from the subjects? If we know this, then we can make a very good estimate of the DOF to see if a shallow DOF is a problem.

Yep. So the photos the OP linked to aren't Raw files.

Is Dolina a female name?
Last time I checked CR2 are canon raw files which there were 11 in that directory, There were also 7 jpegs showing where DPP had represented the active focus point..
