No one ever knows what Nikon is about to do, but the VR2 was introduced only recently and its predecessor was around for quite a few years. I think you're safe.
Hi everyone,
I was gonna buy the nikkor 70-200 vr ii, just want to make sure it will not be replaced by a updated version any time soon, I know the d700 will be replaced in a couple months, so I'll wait till then to upgrade to full frame.
Please let me know if I should buy this lens now or should I wait?
Thank u!

I wouldn't count on the D700 being upgraded in a couple months.
Why worry, nikon hasn't really improved the optics that lens in over 20 years--it's just about perfect, as is the 80-200mm f2.8 af from 24 years ago.
Where the d700 and d7000 are a totally diff class of camera they shouldn't eat into each others markets.... So that's odd.
Just talking to Nikon reps at the last two camera seminars I went too and they both said that there was no update for the D700 this spring as far as they had heard. They want to allow time for the D7000 to be bought and releasing another body while a different format was counterproductive for sales. Thats just what I have heard though.

totally agree, they dont use the same class lenses either, if i get to upgrade, got to get rid of the dx lens with the dx body.

You do not have to GET RID of the DX lenses, they will still function on a FX body. Not as intended but still fully functionable. Just as a FX lens works just fine on a DX body.
