What's new

Is TPF 'the Internet'?

Putting myself in your place, KimbleKow, and reading the thread, I see that TPF has some cranky people who wish the newbies wouldn't ask so many questions as well as a large and vocal community of people who welcome newbies and think they should definitely ask lots of questions, although perhaps they should not expect to have answers spoon fed to them.

Honestly, if that drives you off, well, that's a shame but perhaps you're not cut out for the world wide web. A local camera club may be more your speed, where people are forced to talk face to face, and therefore restrain themselves a bit. Good luck!

Something is rotten in Belgium.

People are social creatures, some people just like to talk to another person (either directly or remotely through the site). The whole point of forums is to allow this communication and we've set aside space on the site for it to take place within. For whatever reason they wish to ask a question they are allowed to do so.

ALLOWED to ask questions is one thing. ENCOURAGED to ask questions is something else entirely. I do not see thephotoforum as being encouraging to new members.

I guess I'll move on. I really don't feel very welcome here. Y'all have a great day.

Well I don't recall seeing a post where you introduced yourself, but it's possible I may have missed it. It's a busy place. Also don't recall a previous post where you asked for anything, if I'd seen it I would have responded. Not sure what your expectation level here is - I mean it's not like I can cull through the new user records, find everyone's name and send them a personal welcoming email begging them for questions.

If you'd read through this thread you would note that the majority of folks here seem to be of the opinion that responses should be helpful and encouraging and that if you don't have a response of that nature you should just ignore the post and move on - which I generally tend to agree with.

Instead apparently you've decided to condemn us all because a couple of folks here have a varying opinion on how the situation should be handled. Not exactly a reasonable response by any means. But not much we can do if your going to take it personally. Good day, good luck, and don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you I guess.

So you joined just to comment on this thread and that's it? Maybe if you actually posted a question you could have a something to base your claims on. Right now you seem like a troll account setup by someone trying to prove their point.

Perhaps maybe a certain rodent...

There is always a moron that thinks THEY are the only opinion that counts. Instead of actually reading the posts in this forum and trying to put your self in MY place, you make accusations that are insulting.

Try looking in a mirror and asking yourself just what positive attributes you bring to this forum.

I suspect that you don't have the courage to admit that you bring very little.

It's people like you that helped to make up my mind.

Now I'm done.

runnah is actually a beloved member here on the forum for his much needed comic relief and witty charm.

4 of your 5 posts are in this thread, complaining about what has happened to other people, making your statement about morons, opinions, and looking in mirrors seem somewhat ironic to me considering outside of your comments in this thread, you have not received any ill will from a TPF member.
you should spend a little time here sampling the local color before making such brash decisions.
if your mind is truly made up, we certainly wish you the best of luck on your internet journeys.

Have you considered my comments a few posts up??? Is it possible that he/she was a long-time "guest" on TPF, onet who finally decided to register, in order to be heard? Again--TPF has a huge guest percentage much of the time, far,far bigger than registered members.

Well, we've pretty much beaten The_OP into temporary submission, I think...I can detect a faint pulse, though, so he's not dead yet though...the OP is one tough S.O.B. though, and has endured much tougher battles than this little skirmish!!!

There was an OP on this? Lol - been so long ago I completely forgot.

Just as an aside, one thing we have not brought up, at all, is the example of "lurkers". I think most of us here, as "TPF junkie", and as "I spend too much of my life on TPF!" rank members, tend to forget the concept of the so-called lurkers, or as TPF calls them, "guests". The people who are not registered members, but who nevertheless come here and read the posts.

So.. spies then. Hmm.. dang NSA. Can't get free of them anywhere.

Lurkers or guests are "using the internet", and are here in HUGE numbers, far,far outnumbering registered,logged-in TPF members. TPF threads on many topics turn up well-placed in search engine results, and as such, TPF posts and the discussions that ensue often become on-line resource materials.

Right now, there are 5 members and 7 guests reading this very thread. I think maybe we need to consider not only how we deal with "our family" members, but also how we appear to "our guests". If rude behavior and "RTFM,noob!" are the standards we should aspire to, I don't want to be a part of that kind of a forum. We need to strive to create a place where we can convert "lurkers" and "guests" intro actual, registered, participating members.

Oh ya.. first you sign them up.. pretty soon they get a free robe... before long they are shaving their head and chanting and after that, kool-aid. Lol

KimbleKow is free to make his/her own choice as to if they want to take part in the site or not. Let's leave their choice theirs and not derail the thread any further on the subject - keep on topic.

This thread still has a topic??

You're looking at the topic.

Money exchanged hands and me and the OP came to an understanding.

I was too busy being arrogant, to consider the feelings of others.

Right NOW, 7 members and 12 guests are reading THIS very thread...this is the "Feedback and Suggestions" sub-forum...the ONLY way to leave feedback is to...register and then be allowed to post. But my point is not to show you up or be arrogant or anything; my first post on this thread today was several posts back now--to suggest that TPF is not just all about those who register and post here, but that TPF is indeed also a "part of the internet" where topics we discuss are actually a part of internet search engine results.

Hellooo guests! Come on in! Be welcome!

What?

Nono, it's not a trap. It's a house. A little metal house. Made out of wire. The snack is all for you!

No, I have no idea why there's a spring on the door.
