Using f/20 introduced some focus softness due to diffraction = Diffraction Limited Photography: Pixel Size, Aperture and Airy Disks

Possibly, but the effect has been limited by the lens' focal length and the lack of an anti-aliasing filter. I try not to use a lens' aperture setting at either extreme. I wanted the fence I was next to, as well as the barn to be as sharp as possible. Perhaps I should have bracketed the f-stops to see the effects.
