Just for fun... ISO/ISO?

I started saying at as "eye-so" when i first got into photography. I would still say it that way, but I've since become a firefighter. If I'm on a call and I say an acronym as a word over the radio, my chief isn't going to understand me. Trust me I learned the hard way haha, and I've had it drilled into my head to say each letter individually. So I now say it as "eye-es-oh" hahaha

The point that I was trying to make earlier is that the organisation is not called the 'International Standards Organization' so its initials aren't ISO. ISO was chosen by them as a name to represent them. This isn't my opinion, it is what ISO says:

"Because "International Organization for Standardization" would have different acronyms in different languages ("IOS" in English, "OIN" in French for Organisation internationale de normalisation), its founders decided to give it also a short, all-purpose name. They chose "ISO", derived from the Greek isos, meaning "equal". Whatever the country, whatever the language, the short form of the organization's name is always ISO."

Best,
Helen

I had to like two posts from you in this thread :)

To conclude, the right pronunciation is mine, that is, ee-so (like Greeks would do). Since we are here, also Nee-kon (to revive the thread, better than tomato ;)).

thats a whole different ball game. Ny(eye)-kon, or N(i)- kon with the i pronounced as the same as the word (in) or Nee-kon as you so put it. language is great haha

oh and i say eye-so

The nice thing about Japanese is that everything is always pronounced exactly how it's spelled...

Nikon would be 3 characters - ni-ko-n. にこん

Been a while since school, and I almost never actually use Japanese anymore - but I do remember how to read/write it... That said, I always say it wrong, lol. They even pronounce it wrong in US advertisements though...

I live in the south where people typically go with the least amount of syllables as possible. I S O = 3. ISO = 2. It's ISO.
