i think the color version is better, and the dof is very nice! grats on movin into dslr! i just got one recently as well, they're so fun aren't they?

truth is, not only is this my first dSLR, this is my first SLR ever. I love the control that SLRs provide. I have to agree, the B&W does no justice.
