Found this goldfinch picking at a sunflower in our backyard. I'm about 10 feet away on our porch shooting through a window.

it looks washed out to me. but that could absolutely the new monitor I'm sitting behind, or maybe its the extra window pane you had to shoot thru.

either way, nice bird capture-

These are nice and can be fixed in post, if you have lightroom play with the black/white sliders. I bet this will look much better, I don't have access to them at this moment or I would have given this a try.

That's all right, those are pretty basic properties. I'm certain you'll find it's equivalent on gimp as well. Google is your friend. Don't ignore post processing, it's a powerfull tool, one that almost all photographers use.

Played around with the histogram a bit and then did an auto color enhancement. Still think it needs something else tweaked, just not sure what.

I like the shot but the bird is a little lost in the frame as there are really no contrasting colors, just lots of greens and yellows. It also looks like it was shot midday with the highlights blown on the plant. Maybe crop some of that out and let the bird take up more space ???
