Just starting out

I took this while my husband was stationed in 29 palms California. I have more recently become obsessed with taking pictures of anything and everything(yes i am known to make him pull to the side of the road so i can hop out of the car real quick) For just starting out im not sure how great they are though.....

I love the colors in this shot from the blue in the sky to the reds and browns in the rocks.

I like it. My only comment, and this is just personal taste for me, is I would play with the contrast and brightness just a bit. (increase the contrast slightly, and decrease the brightness slightly.)
The lighting makes everything look a bit flat.
I'm still learning myself, but I've been told the best times to take pictures are dawn/dusk and overcast days as there is more dynamic lighting.
