K10D Focus Issues

I am noticing more and more that my Pentax K10D is having focusing issues. I have my focus right on the subject's face (this happens when I'm 3 feet or further away) but my camera just focuses on the background. It is driving me insane. Is this a common issue? Is my camera just junk? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Can you select the AF point and is it set to the center or is it set to other?
