So I guess I should say why I didn't close it.

It was fun. As far as I could see people were talking and expressing their own views. Ok, a few could have provoked aggression but I don't think they were originally intended to do so. If it had it would have been a result of the way it was read. I trust the users here to be smart enough to think before they post. If they were angry after reading a reply I'd trust them to think about what they may want to reply with and not make the situation worse. Instead they'd defend themselves or continue to talk about the subject. Not start a war of words and end up in a massive argument. A friendly reminder now and then wouldn't hurt to keep things safe wouldn't have hurt either, so that's what I did.

Matt felt the thread had the potential to go too far or that it already had. As an admin it is his responsibility to do something about it. He did. As far as I'm concerned that should be respected and everyone should move on.

It is good to have strong opinions on issues. It is excellent to be a disciplined and an ardent follower of whatever you choose to believe. But it would be the finest if you are not on a generalizing mode. We simply would not care even if you had opium juice and mashed marijuana for breakfast. If asked for an opinion, we all will have something unique to share, but in a civilized manner.

Very well said Danalec. It was the generalizations that pissed me off. If people would have read back, most of the non-smokers said they had NO PROBLEM with CONSIDERATE SMOKERS!
