Laptop for editing?

Currently have a laptop with a core i7, nvidia geforce gtx 960m with i believe 4gb ram, 16gb ram, windows 10 and a 1tb HDD. I tend to go overkill on things that i buy so it was a gaming laptop i purchased. I run corel paintshop pro, corel aftershot pro, Canon DPP and when doing so it lags a bit. Fresh install of windows, i think it may be a lack of ram to be honest. What out there without needing to take out a small loan will lend itself well to photo editing. It's about the most intense thing i do on a PC, i don't game. Wish i could afford an i9! Just curious what you guys use. I could build a gaming PC easily but i would also be spending 3k+. No clue what will get me by with photos while not making the process frustrating.

I have a similar Dell rig to your present one only I upgraded the on board RAM to 16 gig and just installed a 1tb Samsung SSD. Mine works well with LR/PS
