Last Days of Snow

I've been trying to take advantage of our snowy landscape, but it's melting quick! It's supposed to be in the mid to high 60's next week. Only a few days for wintery portraits. Here is one from today.

I really like the portrait, but actually, I just find the background a little distracting. I know you're trying to show that winter landscape, but because the snow is already half melted, I just see white spots and brown spots and my eye doesn't quite know where to go. And the tree on the left just seems incidental to the whole thing. Cropped into portrait orientation, this would be quite beautiful, imo.

We had over 8 inches of snow last Wednesday night/Thursday morning. That was completely gone by Friday afternoon, except places that stay out of the sun where there was still spots of snow (and, of course, in the mountains).
Then yesterday morning, I woked up to a surprise--another inch of snow that the weatherman didn't predict. Had to scrape the ice and snow off my car before church that morning. By the time I left for evening church at about 5 p.m., the snow was totally gone....and I drove to church with the top down on my convertible! Supposed to be nearly 70 here by Wednesday....and then, I'm sure, another cold front will move in and dash our hopes for spring for a while longer!

LOL crazy weather! Snow one day, top down the next. Too funny. We got hit pretty badly on Wednesday and Thursday. I was excited on Wed, but Thurs I was just keeping my fingers crossed that our power would stay on. Plus we live on a private road, and they do not plow it. I don't know if you saw the news, but Charlotte and Raleigh were a mess. people abandoning their cars, etc. Thousands lost power on the coast. I think South Carolina was in even worse shape.

I have a very close niece who lives in Raleigh, so yeah, I was watching--and hearing from her--about the weather there. She has a very young son, so at first she was pretty excited that he was finally gonna really get to make a snowman and such, but it definitely got pretty ugly out ya'lls way.

I have a very close niece who lives in Raleigh, so yeah, I was watching--and hearing from her--about the weather there. She has a very young son, so at first she was pretty excited that he was finally gonna really get to make a snowman and such, but it definitely got pretty ugly out ya'lls way.

Oh the kids definitely had fun! But yeah, I was filling up every water jug in the house and cooking the meat that was left in the fridge and placing batteries for flashlights in pretty rows, lol.

Yeah she looks like she is thinking "what the heck are we doing out here in this stinking blizzard?" The portrait orientation of the first shot suits me better if you could get it where her shoulder isn't cropped. Nice shots.

Ha! She's a true southern girl. She was like, "Mom, it's coming down sideways!" I took that shot the first day. The second day was much worse, but we didn't do any portraits because I was too busy preparing for the apocalypse. I did, however, get this shot of my neighbor trying to plow our road with his tractor!

He did our driveway too. Bless his heart. It would have taken me hours and hours to shovel it after the sleet and freezing rain. I owe him a big steak dinner!
