Nice. How far apart in time were your 77 photos taken? I want to try something like this myself.

I'd say there were pretty close together, if not back-to-back. Otherwise you get empty spots in the trails, and they turn into dashed lines. Some stacking software can fill in the gaps, but I'm sure there are limitations.

The nice thing with doing star trails, is that it's ok to have longer shutter times where the stars start to trail. Some good Canons can be left open for much longer, and can get decent star trails with a single exposure. But my Nikon will get over heated if I go more than ~1 minute.

I'd estimate this to be about 3 hours worth of earth rotation??

Yes, the shots had about 1-2 seconds between. And 77 30sec exposures is about 38.5 minutes of rotation.
