This is a good-looking guy, and I like the sharpness and glowy way the iris is treated. I'm seeing a lot of midtones that seem to make any one part of the image look like the others. I wonder if adding a contrast layer, or working with the curves might benefit.

KD thanks for the observations . I edited this in Silver ex pro 2 , Im giving it a spin to see if I like enough to buy .

I'm not nearly proficient enough to really tell differences in midtones etc... I just edit to where I like what I'm seeing , more feel than technical i guess , if there is such a thing HAHAHA !!

KD thanks for the observations . I edited this in Silver ex pro 2 , Im giving it a spin to see if I like enough to buy .

I used silver efex pro 2 for the edits as well. Getting a hang of the control points is really the key with that program.

Yes, definitely like the second one better ... Only thing further I might suggest is dodging up the iris a bit, to get it to stand out more from the pupil.

I like the edit as well. I don't know why when I do go B&W, especially on people, I always opt for a little less contrast. On intimate objects i like more contrast, it's just people I can't seem to like it. :/

BTW I'm really liking the nik software, may just buy it when trial period ends, any thoughts on that?

yep, noticed that, I just stupidly forgot to add an anchor control point inside the iris when adjusting everything else. Great thing about silver efex is that you can just throw a point in a spot that acts as a gradual eraser of adjustments, if in areas you like the original image. Such an awesome plugin.

One of the best deals in photo software there is, IMHO.
