lens cleaning

ive heard that the majority of lens cleaning kits are junk and it is cheaper/better to use just rubbing alcohol and 100% pure cotton balls. is there some truth to this?

I find cotton balls, and cotton tips are a bit streaky on my lenses. So I use lens tissue - it's like tissue paper - but it cleans really well... either just with a bit of condensation from breathing on the lens or with my lens cleaner.

I use one of those microfiber deals that you get with eye glasses. works awesome and they are cheap.

ohhh yeah I use a microfibre cloth thingy too. Works great!

Its good i saw this thread since we've just got a DSLR - I was actually thinking about what was best to clean the lenses with the other day.

haha back to the same topic, from experience, i prefer microfibre cloths, it's incredibly easy to clean lenses with them and as xfloggingkylex said they're cheap

I'd be a bit suspicious. Eye glasses don't have the multicoating that's common with lenses. I would fear that the coatings would be removed.
