Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
something else i do, but am not quite grasping. i I have it on in in camera. look at the photo in post, still seems messed up. check the box for lens correction in post, still seems messed up........There is a slider on one of the options, but i cant see a large difference in it. Basically, i am looking at options for correcting lens distortion, but like the thread i just posted on sharpness. I am doing it to little actual correct effect. Seems sometimes something works. But usually i am seriously guessing. Ignorant user pulling it off my sheer chance.

Other is the manual lenses i use on my nikon (you know the old ones). Does lens correction even work for them as it doesn't really know what lens it is? These are the ones we type in manually.

oh, and i am not a gear head. so, if you respond to this talk to me like you would a five year old or i won't comprehend it.

Lens correction is usually distortion, vignetting and chromatic abberation. If your lens has little of this, you won't see much of a difference. And if the EXIF data doesn't tell the software enough information for it to know how much to correct, it may not correct anything at all. This would definitely apply to un-chipped lenses.

I notice quite a bit of correction applied to shots taken through my kit 18-55 Nikkor, the older non-VR model, notably removal of barrel distortion. On my 70-300 ED VR, not so much.

you don't tell which software you speak of. Anyway, in principle lens correction is applied on camera on JPEGs only, although it could be registered together with the RAW and automatically selected in PP software.
Another issue could be that your lens is not among those automatically corrected... maybe knowing your camera and lenses might be of help.

automatic lens correction is unlikely on unusual lenses, because it cannot only based on focal length, but each lens has its own distortion profile.
