It also has a cheap 50mm f1.8 lens offering.

So does Nikon, and the ($109 on Amazon.com) Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D has 10x the build quality the Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II has.

The Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II only has 5 aperture blades so it delivers some of the ugliest prime lens bokeh around.
The Nikon AF 50 mm f/1.8D has 7 aperture blades. The AF 50 mm f/1.8D doesn't deliver top shelf bokeh, but it's way nicer looking then what the Canon lens delivers.

As usual, you get what you pay for.

Do a Google images search for all Canon EF 50 mm f.1.8 II lenses that have been dropped, even onto soft surfaces like carpet and grass, and broken into 2 larger can't-be-repaired pieces.

All Nikon DSLR cameras have color aware metering. Only some of Canon's recent higher end cameras have color aware metering.
All Nikon DSLR's tie Spot metering to the selected AF point. Canon Spot metering is locked to the center AF point. Canon's most basic DSLR (T3/1100D) doesn't even have Spot metering.
From the upper-tier entry-level Nikon DSLR's and up, all Nikons have a built-in intervalometer. None of Canon's DSLRs do.

Nikon makes cameras for photographers. Canons makes cameras for Canon's marketing department.
