Lens help?

Hey fellow Photographers.

I'm still a nooby when it comes to what lense to use.
At the moment i have 2 lensen, a EF 28-80mm Canon Lense
and a EF-S 18-55mm Canon Lense
My Camera is a Canon400D, so i was wondering what lense is best, and what are they made for?

First you should do some reading on lens focal length.

Then you be able to figure out what is "best".

Second you should look at lens reviews to get more specifics on lens quality.

That is a huge question.

The lower the number in mm the wider the field of view. So wide lenses (under 50mm) are good for landscapes, or shots that use perspective or to look dramatic. Long lenses about 85mm are often good for portraits, and longer for things like wildlife.

You can get good and bad versions of all. One thing that makes any lens good is the light gathering ability, measured by the f stop. A lower fstop is good. So generally anything over f4 is not so good and everything under is good. In the middle of the range it gets easier to make lower f stop lenses. So a f1.8 50mm will not cost so much as a f1.8 135mm. The difference in price can be very big indeed. A cheap 300mm f5.6 would only set you back a few hundred dollars, whereas a 300mm f2.8 could set you back 10s of thousands.
