Lens hood question

I'm having trouble finding a lens hood for my Pentax 28mm. It's a K so it has the 52mm thread, so any of the Pentax hoods available won't fit. Is there a serious need for compatibility? Could I use a hood from another manufacturer that makes a 28mm hood for a 52mm thread (say Nikon for example)?

The brand makes no difference. as long as the thread size is the same and the hood is designed for that field of view. (a hood for a 100mm lense would obstruct the image)

You certain about the 52mm lens barrel? I would have bet 49mm for the Pentax.

The shade you're looking for is acutally rectangle in shape and slips over the outside of the lens.
