I'm guessing that you've managed to strip the threads, probably throgh misaligning one of your previous filters. Unfortunatley there's not much that can be done about it.

A couple weeks ago I noticed my lense cap didn’t fit on any more. Then I tried to screw a filter on and there’s no threads on the lense. I have used both the lens cap and filter in the past without issue. Any ideas on what happened to my kit lense?

Yes your 3rd photo clearly shows it. You have a 40.5 to 58 stepping ring fitted to the lens (Note there's no e at the end unless plural).
If you unscrew that the original lens cap should fit fine, as will the 40.5 filter.
Leave it on and 58mm filters/caps will fit instead.

Thank you , I will try to remove the stepping ring. OK that worked, thanks. It was left in from a cheap Optek close up lens I tried.
