Gday the zoom on my lens is quite stagey and stiff... I was wondering how to apply lubrication and what sort? Any advice would be appreciated

Well, That is a tough one, I've used white lithium grease on focusing rings but I think that would proove to be a little too stout for the zoom and would likely end up collecting at or around the front element. So I'll be paying attention to whatever suggestions are made as well.

Never the less you are prolly going to have to open the lens up to gain access to the barrel of the zoom to apply the lubricant.

Some lenses have a zoom tension adjustment. The Canon 100-400 F4-5.6 L, for example.

I wouldn't recommend trying to do it yourself...it might more more than a lubrication issue but even just trying to lubricate it yourself might cause more problems than it solves. Call your manufacturer's service centre and ask them.
